After a manual reboot (pressing the power button), it wasn't accessible anymore, not over Webinterface neither by ping. What other data do you need to see if you can help me please? I've read the thread and the suggested fixes did not work for me. Raid 1 configuration to secure disk failure/data loss. I definitely DO NOT want to reset the qnap as this unit contains all our home and business documentation and backups. I did ad Qfinder to the whitelist on my Avast Firewall, but nothing. Qfinder finds the qnap with NAS IP: 192.168.101.115 (DHCP, not static, QTS ver.4.) but also when I ping the IP I get 100% loss. Connecting via http (or https, as I also forced secure connection) or connecting via Qfinder. Then upon next boot I noticed I couldn't connect. I was still adding data and afterwards shut down as we had "Load Shedding", where the power is shut off for 2-3 hours. This only happened after the last QTS update. You will get far fewer issues than if you rely on your router DHCP to provide the ip each time. Then your static ip which is set in QNAP's qts, or during the reinitialization first time setup, put it within same subnet of the dhcp but outside of it's ranged e.g. you should set it up like this as an example In my experience, using DHCP for your QNAP is just not worth it. DO NOT USE DHCP to assign an ip to the QNAP. If anything still not working on qfinder, it could be a bug, report to įor a new nas during the smart install initialization you get when you first use qfinder, or first setup your nas, during the steps you should set static ip for your QNAP. After that, then go browser try login to your qnap. By default its configured for Before you do that though, you need to go to start, type credential manager, then add an entry for your QNAP credentials. or I set my nas to https forced, so i use that. Usually you'd open the admin web interface via qfinder, but if that doesn't work, you can manually type the ip in a browser e.g. It should then show you your qnap lan ip. Also if you are running vpn apps on windows, make sure it allows local lan connectivity) then scan. You go qfinder (make sure firewall isn't blocking this app. I don't know your exact situation so i'll just talk about accessing qnap from a lan scenario. power it off for 30seconds then power up, do you get a new wan ip?Īlso what is your network layout like and how exactly are you connecting to your QNAP (are you accessing via local lan? or are you connecting remotely over the internet?) And what QTS version and build are you using? what hard drives? are you using raid1 or what? And also if your isp is using a dynamic ip, hard reboot your router. If i'm not mistaken isn't that your wan ip or something? best edit your post and remove that. So I have tried connecting my laptop directly to the NAS and use Qfinder, which shows an ip of xxxxxxxxx, but it won't connect to this ip and pinging it has No LAN light for 20 seconds and then lights up for 5 seconds. MY TS 251 stopped connecting to my router.

This unit replaces one of the ordinary units, thus making the civ unable to build the ordinary version. Civilization Revolution 2 isn’t a terrible game by any stretch, but I’ve a feeling it will be long forgotten within minutes of sinking my teeth into a full-featured Civilization game set in space. Each civilization has one unique unit that only that civilization can build. Admittedly, that’s probably almost exactly how 2K intended people play this game.īut I don’t think my Civilization itch is going to be properly scratched until the release of this fall’s Civilization: Beyond Earth on PC and Mac. I can see myself returning to Civilization Revolution 2 now and then, perhaps on plane trips – the average game duration seems about perfect for a three-hour flight (though it can be shorter or longer, depending on how you play) – and maybe on the couch while watching movies I’ve already seen. Naval military units may also create a formation with embarked land units. A military unit can create a formation with a support or civilian unit at any time. I'm pretty sure it's possible because computer units combine and some How i ccurrently have one that's combined. This can be useful for escorting civilian units in hostile lands, or even creating stronger units in Corps and Armies. Civilization Revolution - How you combine units In the Xbox 360 version of this game, you could combine 3 units of the same type into one, but I can't figure out how to do it on here. I had lots of fun for the first few games, but then I was plagued by a growing need for larger and more diverse maps, more civilizations and city-states, more diplomatic options, more… well, more of everything, really. Formations allow you to easily move units together. But why couldn’t they have included options that add depth for those who want it? If you move to a different prosition and press 元, any units which were moving to the previous rally point will stop moving and request instructions. The when you are on a unit and press the 元 button, the cursor will move to the previously selected position. It’s great that 2K made the game even more accessible for new players and so easy to play on a mobile device. The closest you can do is to select a destination with the 元 button. Ranged units are kind of pointless, since you need to be right up against a city to use them anyway. Back to the list of promotions Embarkation is a promotion in Civilization V and its expansions. The upshot is that you can send massive armies in all at once to crush a city (assuming they aren’t of the useless cannon-fodder variety mentioned above) rather than being forced to plan ahead. Additionally, in the Modern Era, three units can combine to form an Army. This was likely a necessary move, since the developers opted for square tiles rather than Civilization V‘s hexes, which means fewer units can surround a city. Beginning at the Renaissance Era, two of the same units can be combined into a Corps, which is less powerful than two individual units, but more survivable and takes up less space on the map (to reduce overcrowding). Colonization The main article has not been created for (or Upgrade is not part of) Colonization. Leonardos Workshop upgrades current units into their most powerful form, but not future units. A unit defending from a city tile with walls has another +100 defense bonus, and capital cities have. Civilization Revolution The main article has not been created for (or Upgrade is not part of) Civilization Revolution. Interestingly, though, you can now stack units – and even upgrade them by joining three of the same type. After five turns, if outside a city, the unit creates a fortress for another +100 bonus. That means they basically become useless after a certain point in the game, good for little more than playing the grim role of cannon fodder to make enemies waste a turn while laying siege to one of your cities. You can’t retire military units or upgrade them to their modern counterparts (like, say, converting a battalion of Renaissance-era riflemen into modern military). creative entity combining the physi- cal attributes of an animal with the. Most of these are original IPs that were not regarded as being financially viable and there are probably just as many too that were attempts at taking well-known franchises in different directions (for example, what Splinter Cell Conviction was presented as at one point, vs the game that actually released).Īs for original IPs that do succeed. There are many, many games that get completely buried before they ever see the light of day. All of this comes before the game even has a chance to be realised, and this money also needs to come from somewhere. Then you have to actually build functioning prototypes, figure out fundamental tech pipelines, etc. To form a new IP requires massive sunk costs in the pre-production state - so, before the game is even considered as a possibility - in terms of convincing corporate that it's commercially and critically viable, that the cost of it can be made back, that you've done the necessary market research and have an actually viable selling point that can target some currently underserved niche, etc. Well-known IPs are almost guaranteed to sell better. It's been scientifically tested and proven that consumers as a whole respond a lot more positively, both at the get-go and in the long-term, to brands and identities they already know, even if the actual nature of the products change somewhat. Game development is very expensive, and particularly at the scale of AAA operations, where you have to account for thousands of employees across multiple studios and countries and franchises and brands, that money has to be made from somewhere. This is a pragmatic business solution above anything else. Here is an example using a maximum depth of 25 meters: doubled makes 50, subtracted from 90 gives you 40. If you double the maximum depth and subtract the result from 90 you get your no-decompression time. But decompression tables were quickly developed to check no-decompression time – the time when a diver should resurface without having to make a decompression stop under water.Įxperienced divers (especially those who weren’t too excited about all these numbers) devised an easy rule to calculate decompression time in the head: the 90s rule. In the early 1950s there was no instrument available to calculate decompression times. Remember this is not a Seiko corporation watch so corners have been cut and just enough left behind to make this a simplistic, functioning instrument and nothing more.ĭespite its glaring flaws you can’t help but love this little timepiece, if only for its party piece and gorgeous aesthetic.Setting dive time using the bezel’s reference markerīut how does the diver know when to end the dive? The supplied strap is very basic, thin but comfortable. No lume is present so going back to my thought of this being a different take on a dress watch is further enhanced. Both hands look the same and are of equal length with just a colored tip to distinguish the hour hand.īy taking this elegant geometry further and changing the colour on the tip of the hour hand would have been a better solution to distinguish between the two and give you a chance of reading the time better. It really is confusing, and with no minute scale, accuracy is non-existent. But this similarity does nothing to aid the reading of the time. The hands of the Seiko SMW004A Metronome watch are particularly interesting, reminding me of a conductor’s baton, skeletonised and very similar in design to aid reading the metronome scale. Pressing the mode button again puts the watch into the note mode where two notes in 3 pitches can be played to aid the tuning of an instrument with the audible tone activated by the pusher at 10 o’clock. Pressing either pusher at 2 or 4 o’clock decreases and increases the swing and pressing the pusher at 10 o’clock adds an audible tone. The hands move round into position with the minute hand swinging back and forth between the pitch values marked on the dial at 12 o’clock, while the hour hand lines up to the scale, governing the speed or pitch of the metronome. People will no doubt draw similarities with Junghans and Nomos dial designs, but this takes it further and really shows you how a dial should be designed with attention paid to the displaying of information and the resultant negative space, to make using the watch effortless and pleasurable.Īctivating the metronome feature is done by the pusher at 7 o’clock. Overall it’s a lesson in how to display information correctly, with the simple solution of displaying time in the centre and the complication around the outside. The dial of the Seiko SMW004A Metronome is stepped with light grey printed numerals in the sunken section for time keeping with the outer raised dial section accommodating the metronome scale. I chose the pvd coated black case with a dark blue dial under a mineral crystal and it lends a certain sporty aesthetic that I wasn’t expecting, as all the other colour options give off a dress watch vibe. 6 colour options should cater for many tastes and styles. It’s a great unisex size at 36.5mm diameter, 39mm lug to lug and 10mm thick all rendered in a sleek and angular stainless steel case with drilled lugs. It may have Seiko written on the dial but this isn’t made by the Seiko we all know, in fact it’s made by ‘Seiko Instruments’ who produce amongst other things, metronomes! so a perfect company to combine the two elements of timekeeping and rhythm keeping, but have they done a good job? But I would say the main aim is just a fun, quirky complication in a handsome case proving useful if you are musically inclined. The relevance of a metronome watch is a little lost on me, I’m guessing it’s useful for musicians and teachers of music, but maybe also useful for meditation purposes or for measuring a runner’s cadence. A striking quartz watch which has the ability to produce a beat or pulse just like a metronome, and it can also play pitched notes for the tuning of instruments. But how about combining rhythm and timekeeping as a complication within the Seiko SMW004A Metronome watch. Watch complications vary from traditional to contemporary, whimsical to necessary, and watch brands are always combining complications to display horological prowess and open up new market trends. Steven points out that the ocean is an important part of his home and that's why he's there to get it back. She looks sadly at the stars and indicates she was only using the ocean to stretch into space far enough to go home. Lapis chastises him for his naiveness over the Crystal Gems in her eyes, they don't care about other Gems as much as they care for the Earth, a planet she never believed in. Lapis demands to know what Steven is doing, but he reverses the question on her, insisting that Gems should all be friends. He steps into the tower of water, and a hand construct lifts him to the tower's apex: the literal edge of outer space. Fight over, Steven declares that he is coming to the top of the tower to see Lapis and asks her not to drown him. The construct dissolves against the shield, and Steven's statement of intent echoes across the battlefield, destroying the other reflection constructs as well. Greg saves them by driving his van through Reflection Steven, dissipating him. Connie and Steven rush into the fray shouting, "Revenge!" Lapis takes them easily, encasing the children's heads in water bubbles. When Lion is thrown into Greg's van, he cries out in dismay. The Reflection Gems, being water, are almost impossible to beat as they re-form themselves after any attack the Gems throw at them. Lion steps up to guard them, then fights Reflection Steven, to no avail. The battle is joined! Pearl warns Steven and Connie to stay back. Garnet prepares for battle, warning her partners to not get separated when Reflection Garnet punches her far across the ocean floor. Lapis retaliates by generating aquatic reflections of Steven, Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl. She again demands to be left alone, but Steven says they won't go until she gives back the ocean. Steven attempts to convince Lapis that they're summer fun buddies, but she will not be moved. But because of her gratitude for his help, she gives him a chance to leave. She tells Steven he's one of them, and implies that makes him an enemy. Steven tries to talk to Lapis, but she doesn't want to talk. Amethyst blurts out the truth: that all the monsters they've faced used to be sentient Gems like Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl and that the Gems have been bubbling them for want of a way to restore them, but being unable to do so.Īfter driving all day, Steven and company finally find where the ocean has gone: it has been turned into a semi-solid pillar that reaches up into the sky. Pearl says they've been fighting Gems all along, and tries to explain it delicately. In the course of conversation, Steven mentions that he never thought they'd have to fight a Gem. Garnet bails out of the van without a word upon hearing it and spends the rest of the ride reclining on the van's roof. To pass the time, Greg puts in a hard rock tune he calls one of Rose's favorites. Greg drives with Garnet sitting in the shotgun seat, and Amethyst and Pearl crammed in the back. Connie says she's coming as well, and the Gems naturally insist on joining Steven's quest, ungrounding Steven in the process for stepping up to take responsibility and trying to find a solution. Greg immediately volunteers to come along, despite usually staying behind on Gem missions. Steven declares this his fault, and packs his backpack to set out on a quest to find Lapis, and ask her to give back the ocean. Smiley expresses concern that no one will come to Funland. Lars laments that the girls won't come if there's no beach. All the people Steven has met so far in the season are gathered on the beach Fryman worries that he'll have no customers. Mayor Dewey is in a right tizzy, upset at the loss of vital summer revenue if people won't come to a Beach City that lacks a beach. They arrive at the beach, discovering that the ocean is completely gone, leaving nothing but sand, beached vessels, and junk as far as the eye can see. Before the conversation can continue, a winded Greg bursts through the door and tells the Gems they need to come see something. This page shows you how to do numbering for headings, figures, references to figures and page numbers in a document that contains several "Chapters" (or "Parts" or "Sections") followed by one or more Appendixes.Ĭontents of this page Headings Figures, tables, charts etc Page numbers and Tables of Contents Technical stuff 1. But it doesn't all work well in an Appendix. The built-in Heading styles have all kinds of "magic" properties: they can be used to number Figures or Tables, refer to those Figures or Tables, build tables of contents, tables of figures and so on. But they don't cope well with Appendixes. Word's built-in heading styles (Heading 1, Heading 2 and so on) are terrific for numbering headings in your document. Only then can you create a cross-reference to these captions in the text. Use Heading 6 to 9 styles for the Appendix.Ĭreate a new label (Figure_Apx) to number captions for figures in your Appendix. Use Heading 1 to 5 styles for the main body of the document. In this case, the solution is to make sure that you set up a group of styles that will be used specifically for your numbering purposes, separate from your heading styles.Use the built-in heading styles to number headings and figures in an Appendix The reason is because there are many times where you want the style after a Heading to naturally be whatever style you are using for your body text, not another instance of the same heading. For instance, if you are using a numbering scheme that is linked, in some way, to the heading styles defined in Word, you may not want to change the "Style for Following Paragraph" setting for your heading styles. First, you'll want to pay attention to which styles you are modifying and whether your modification makes sense for all the uses for which the style may be used. There are some caveats that you should keep in mind. (That way, when you press Enter, the new paragraph will continue to use the same style.) In a numbered list it is good to pick the name of the same style you are modifying.
The second section accommodates hermeneutics to ludocriticism. The first section revisits the concept of hermeneutics in game and videogame research. Hermeneutics is thus not applied here solely as a pragmatical (Aarseth, 2003a), phenomenological (Sicart, 2009), or meaning-making (Arjoranta, 2011) instrument but as an analytical meta-ludic method for describing and fostering the ludocritical process. The idea is to take hermeneutics as a method for explaining and guiding this doubly active practice. With reference to Espen Aarseth’s (2003a) founding methodological review, the premise is that ludocriticism rests upon two fundamental dominators: empirical play and critical analysis. Instead of continuing the study of these values, the present article chooses to focus on the scarcity of ludocritical methods, nonetheless. A frequent (but not too frequent) emergence of attempts to explain and advance ludocritical values is hence not surprising (e.g. A comprehension of how videogames become worth the player’s time, money, and effort is an analytical donation to ludo-ontology, -phenomenology, and -aesthetics, to name but a few major schemes. This evaluative criticism of videogame products shall henceforth be referred to as ludocriticism: a practice that is not so much concerned of understanding the product, but rather of whether the product is worth understanding.įor the academic who normally holds reverse interests, the concept of "worth" provides a lucrative view to the videogame’s unseen mechanisms. Whereas the journalistic criticism of most aesthetic products is governed by guiding interpretation (what they "mean"), the journalistic criticism of videogame products is governed by judging evaluation (are they "good"). The difference becomes most visible in journalistic criticism. For paintings, films, and novels the situation is quite the opposite: While they operate ipso facto, their understanding poses a challenge. One of the most distinctive characteristics of the videogame as an aesthetic artifact is the manual, which safeguards its use: While the operability of the product remains an enigma, its understanding is ultimately secured. If the reader has the endurance to reach the last section, she or he will discover one of the key outcomes of the discussion the notion of hermeneutic play, which refers to a mode of playing videogames for the sake of understanding their ludo-generic identities. If the reader chooses to enter the main article, she or he will find out how the concept of hermeneutics has been previously used in game and videogame research, and how it can also be used to explain and perhaps even cultivate the evaluation of videogame artifacts. The primary method of this practice is hermeneutics. This article introduces the concept of ludocriticism as a practice for evaluating videogame artifacts. |
